Meet Chris Wilson, our Light Vehicle Technology IMI Skill Auto 2017 Finalist

College – Central College Nottingham

Employer – Car-Tek Pinxton

We caught up with Chris on an employer visit at his workplace, Car-Tek in Pinxton to run through all things IMI Skill Auto, here’s what Chris had to say –

“I originally was a welder before. I was then approached by Porsche so just fell into the job role. I had an interest in cars before but hadn’t considered it as a career. When I left school, I went to work at a welding company, then I got a job at Porsche, then finally moving here.

I came through the pilot scheme and the day was brilliant. After that I went to the Skill Auto National Qualifier at Volkswagen Group National Learning Centre. I’m a massive VW fan and it was a really impressive facility. I also got to learn on VW software and their diagnostic system. I’ve learnt I need to manage my time in the finals.

I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead at the finals. It’s a great experience. It highlights your faults which can be a good thing. In the future I’d like to own my own business but for the moment, I’d like to progress where I am.”

Hobbies – Working on own cars which is an old and drag racing

Favourite car – 74 Beetle

Best part of the job – Fault finding when others cant find the fault
