We visited Cory Maher to have a catch up before the finals in November – Cory is one of our IMI Skill Auto Refinishing 2017 Finalists

College – Cardiff and Vale College

Employer – Trade Centre Wales

We met with Cory at his employers base in Wales to make sure that he’s ready for the finals, here’s what Cory had to say –

“I’ve always wanted to paint but first started as a welder, knew I needed to change. I started at a level 2 Welder, a year later I swapped to a level 1 painter and worked my way up.

The National Qualifiers were a good day, it highlighted what I did and didn’t know. The worst part was polishing the wing. The bumper one was really good and I found it easy. My confidence has improved.

I’m excited about the finals but I’m not too sure how big it will be or what I’m getting myself into! I’m looking forward to it.

Career wise, I love painting. I’m where I want to be and I’m still learning.”

Hobbies – Huge car enthusiast

Favourite car – Mark 1 RS Ford

Best part of the job – Painting
